We have so many layers, they have slowly built up from birth, childhood and adolescence, or perhaps we had a few before we were welcomed into this world? There are times where we numb the pain, remove our frustrations and anxieties by doing something that numbs the sensation. For some, it can be an addiction to a substance, recreational or prescribed, for others, it can be alcohol, and then there is the realisation that it is a quick fix.
We all have security blankets, that shield us from pain or situations we wish we could leave behind. This blanket can keep us from feeling vulnerable and can numb us from our authentic self. It is not until we sit and see that letting go of what is our biggest fear can allow us to transform. The less we have to access for distraction, the better. We can be in denial of our habits or patterns we have formed, and it’s like a constant spin cycle. We wake up; we do, we don’t think, we fall into the habit of everyday thinking.
Is this the time to start to make some changes? There is always a reason why we cannot sit and see what our future might be like when we jump off the merry go round and become grounded. Sit and become an observer, see the distractions, the things you avoid and listen to your body. We can fear what has been a web of life’s stories, spinning deeper and deeper into stories we repeat about ourselves. Now is the time to update that script, change the scene, and rewrite the story. All it takes is for you to become present in your everyday life. Settling into listening to your mind and body.
You can start to rebuild the foundations; they can feel shaky, a few wobbles here and there, taking hold and strengthening life. Quietening the mind is difficult at first, it can take many days, weeks and months to be able to sit in stillness with the breath. Being able to do this can allow you to see where it is you can start to rebuild from, and begin to layer the foundations down again.
Being able to nourish in the present moment can feel like your feeding your fears. If you focus on the inhale, you will gather your attention. On the exhale, feel where your feet are grounded on the floor. When we become curious about our emotions, we begin to peel away at the layers, until one by one they come away. We remove the things we have been hiding behind. Allow yourself to be driven by both the conscious and unconscious mind. Wake up to the emotions you feel in your body.
Take the courage to make that first step, finding out your triggers, what wounds you feel and step into the unknown to heal and gain strength. Remove that security blanket and peel away the layers!
