You receive so many instructions when it comes to thinking about having a baby, so what is the best way to not fall into a heap? Days can be about spending every last minute thinking when is it going to happen, waking, dreading the day ahead as your period is due.
As a Dr Chinese medicine, Doula Calmbirth educator and Breath Coach, life has been a journey that weaves in and out of many women’s lives for the past twelve years. This has given me great insight, along with my own journey of becoming a mother in how important it is to nourish the mind and the body. Some say they are one, however, the mind has a greater impact on our body than we think.
Firstly, I recommend that you become aware of how you nourish your body. Nourishing and tonifying(energising) the entire body by eating regular meals which are high in nutrients, good fats, and if possible organic ingredients. It can be as simple as adding roasted beetroot to your diet, as it is a wonderful way to build blood and tonify the uterus.
Combining breathwork is something that is added to my acupuncture consults in the clinic, it compliments my practice as it allows clients to relax and works beautifully aiding with the nervous system. We know stress is a fact of modern-day life, it can cause insomnia, infertility, and immune system dysfunction. A system under stress is in the fight or flight response. The sympathetic nervous system is activated and the body prepares for the worst. We are wired to respond with a rush of adrenaline, which shuts down the non-essential functions like ovulation and the digestive system. With stress re-occurring daily it shuts the immune system down, and the body’s hormonal balance is affected.
The simple way to learn how to cope with stress is through the breath. Placing the body in the parasympathetic nervous system, known as the ‘Relaxation Response’, the place where growth and repair happens. Simply accessing your subconscious where all habits are stored, you can reframe and change the situation, your reaction and perception of your own capabilities.
Doing daily breathwork brings calm, relaxation and the ability to cope with life’s challenges. Whether it is stress or some of its related problems in life – weight, lack of confidence or anxiety. Techniques learnt in the clinic using your breath are tools that are easily accessed in your everyday life to bring about lasting change.
